introducing haraket, a 5 piece from south london who are set to release their debut 12 inch single on melodic recordings this spring. the band emerged from the creative chaos of school and college bands in and around peckham that have already given the world king krule. this is the first in a series of releases with melodica recordings, with an album due next year. haraket fuse wall-of-sound dynamics with often delicate source material, moody electronics, programmed beats and effected vocal lines. think a post dubstep version of early underworld or a certain ratio reinvented by the new digital century.

little do people know that coober pedy is an opal rich town buried deep within the red and arid outback of south australia. lewie day (aka tornado wallace) and tom moore may be from melbourne, but the duo make up the coober pedy university band, coining the term krautback to describe this moon plain ep. drawing upon italo synths and mid-tempo balearica as inspiration, the first release comes in 10 form via soft rocks kinfolk label. the reverb washed australian crooner chet faker appears on the title track moon plain alongside heavy struck piano chords, while sentenced beyond the seas is a flow of groggy atmospheres and downtempo beats. oblong is the the eps stand out italo track with short bass arpeggios a highlight, while soft rocks acperience mix of moon plain takes on an acidic and space western theme.

he “nulungkwana” package is the first debut release on combination music records. the african song is written, sung and originally produced by charlie hamilton, a talented music producer and song writer from south africa. the combinations heard the song (nulungkwana) from mutual friend max martinex and immediately reached out to charlie to remix the vocal and create an e.p.

dj spoko was born marvin ramalepe, raised in the rural town of tzaneen in northern south africa, where he says there was no first or third class—all the same. he started producing on a pc at age 12, after moving with his brother kelly rams ramalepe to atteridgeville, a 99%-black township outside the mostly white city of pretoria – to find their father. they lived in an area called ghost town, near atteridgeville s cemetery, where as the neighborhood s premiere producer, young spoko earned the nickname ghost. the title of his new ghost town ep

for signal life #03, we teamed up two young vigorous south londoners: mr. louis carnell, known by his moniker visionist, and mr. marco giuliani, who works under the alias last japan. >control this< by visionist combines his background in south london grime with his signature drum machine template and lo-fi vocal excerpts into a coherent mesh. our favourite visionist track to date! when we first heard >storm trooper< by last japan, it was the tension we got caught up in. the song is focused with a clear direction, uncommon in most young talent, armed with a driving snare-fill rhythm reminiscent of south rap and all that exiting stuff in the 160 bpm. i believe murky is the correct term. we predict interesting things for mr. giuliani.

lv return to hyperdub with a taste of whats to come on their forthcoming south london-meets-south africa album sebenza, due at the end of august. what lv make here is the exciting prospect of music influenced by south african house and kwaito, informed by regular trips out there and sessions with up and coming south african artists such as okmalumkoolkat, ruffest and spoek mathambo, but letting the influences of uk soundsystem music and hip hop bleed naturally into the mix too, creating a genuine hybrid.
